Double Date

While Becky is away taking a the well deserved vacation I gave her for Mother's Day, I'm staying at home with my girls. Am I going to try to make them feel like Dad is funner to be around than Mom? You bet. Will I succeed? Not likely, but I may as well try. I thought I would start by taking them out for a real restaurant experience. How I was planning on managing two small children in a restaurant I didn't know, but I knew I needed to practice and they'll eventually need to learn. Alyssa geared up for the event by wearing her pink jacket, pink sunglasses, and her backpack. She was extra excited to visit a restaurant with the word Dragon in the title. We visited Dragon Hill for the first time. It is a small little place about 2 miles from our home. I always thought that it didn't get any business, but to my surprise it was packed. To the restaurant's surprise it was packed. The host had no idea what to do when there were no tables to seat us. I guess he'd never been to an actual restaurant before. I told him we'd wait for the next table. Once we sat, I figured I'd satisfy the kid's curiosity with chop sticks, fried rice, tangy chicken, and by letting them make a big mess. We must have looked silly all sharing one little cup of egg drop soup, but the kids seemed to enjoy it. It was fun to see them try to eat with chop sticks; after a while they just had me use my chop sticks to pick up random morsels off of their plates to eat. In the end we had satisfied our hunger and fried rice all over our table. We couldn't have had a better visit at the Dragon Hill. Next time we'll have to order Alyssa her own fried shrimp. She was really excited to finish that off, and was sad when I told her not to eat the tail.

Oh, you are so brave. We have decided to eat out only on special occasions, if even then. It is very hard to entertain a toddler at a restaurant. It sounds like you did a good job of it. Way to go!
