Maybe I should just calendar in one doctor's visit when I compose a marathon training schedule. Last year it had something to do with my foot, this year the right knee is taking the stage. While running out to Antelope Island and back I began experiencing a most peculiar knee pain. It didn't hurt each time I planted down on my right foot, but I felt the pain sensation each time I'd lift my right leg to take my next step. Since then I've taken plenty of aspirin, filled plenty of bags of ice, and slept in rather than run way too many times. I conceded yesterday to visit the doctor. The visit, despite taking much longer than anticipated, satisfied my curiosities for the time being. I guess my main purpose in making the appointment was to get some x-rays and confirm that everything looked okay there. Check. With that out of the way, the question now becomes about cartilage and ligaments. The doctor felt like he was able to rule out the real serious stuff; enough that he didn't discourage continuing my running. Short of performing an MRI, rest vs. letting pain be my guide are the options. I'll try to combine the two to a degree: run enough to prepare for my upcoming 30K and marathon, and rest enough for my upcoming 30K and marathon.
