With much anticipation I completed my first official timed 1/2 marathon on Saturday. I had taken the whole week prior to the race to rest due to some soreness in my right knee. Rest along with daily ice, some aspirin, a new pair of sneakers, and a knee brace boosted my confidence to run. As I review that small laundry list I'm thinking to myself, "What in the world am I doing?" Shouldn't running be more straight forward and less of a hassle? Despite the pains of a long run and a tedious training there is pay off. Mine came in the time of 2:13:34. I paced a 10:11 mile doing my walk run and got to the finish line with minimal discomfort. The real discomfort came after I stopped running. Hopefully the new sneaks, which worked very well on their maiden 13.1 mile voyage, will help solve the problem. I've got 5 weeks till the full marathon. Somehow within that time frame I've got to give my poor knee some R&R, complete a 30K and maintain a training schedule that'll take me cross the 26.2 finish line. I'm tired just thinking about it.Monday, April 6, 2009
