In the 2013 October LDS General Conference, Elder Richard G. Scott stated that one of the most important things we can do at this time was to learn to recognize the power of the atonement in their lives. As I considered a title to the my painting of the Christus in my home, I don't think there is anything more fitting a title than that--'Learning About the Atonement'. This piece is just as much an experiment in a painting medium for me as it is a statement of my belief in the infinite atonement of Jesus Christ. I feel like my painting ability is so amateur while at the same time I find so much joy in exploring and practicing this ability whenever I'm able. Likewise, I feel my knowledge of the atonement, how it really works and how it affects me in my every action is amateur, but the prospect of knowing I have a lifetime to continue to learn and grow nearer to Him is both comforting and invigorating. The original 2'x4' painting is currently located in the entry way of my home. There have been times when the house has been quiet that I've sat alone at night and stared at this painting as it has been dimly lit by our entry way light. It has allowed my mind to reflect on the Savior and to hear the Holy Ghost testifying to my mind the truthfulness of His ultimate sacrifice and love for me, my family, and for all God's children. He knows us individually and he speaks to those who are humble and meek and who have tuned their ears to hear His will.
I've been blessed to have this knowledge.
