Santa's Knee

I'm sure what we witnessed today waiting in line for Santa is indicative of future events. Our children are both such their own person. Alyssa wasn't interested in getting near Santa at all, and Anna wasn't interested in waiting for her turn. As Alyssa moaned about wanting to play elsewhere, Anna made her way in front of a number people to catch Mrs. Claus' attention. Once she had it, Mrs. Claus couldn't resist picking her up and giving her first Christmas candy cane. What can I say, she earned it. She did what Alyssa wasn't willing to do. While Anna enjoyed figuring out how to unwrap her prize, Alyssa could be seen looking onward with a big frown on her face. Alyssa did eventually turn around though, she ended up drawing a picture of what she wanted for Christmas and handing it over for a treat of her own. Maybe we'll see that the both kids have figured this out by next year, but for now, we as a family have no regard for waiting in line to see the Claus', nor much of a desire to sit on Santa's knee.

I am not one bit surprised by the Santa outcome. And the fact that Anna made her way to be the first...not surprised in the least.

I think the whole 'sitting on Santa's lap' thing is a little weird. Most kids don't want to approach some stranger and sit on his lap. We haven't done that yet with Sebastian, but I'm not so sure we will. The waiting in line thing is a challenge for all of us! Maybe we'll just wait until he's a little older.
