I love September. What isn't to love about it. The weather is beautiful, the leaves begin to change color, the air becomes a little more crisp, college football begins, baseball season ends, and each weekend provides an opportunity to sneak in a couple more summer activities before winter sets in. I also love it for one more reason; just one more detail to add to the September nostalgia. For the past several years now, I've made it a special tradition to inaugurate the coming and going of September by playing Neil Diamond's 'September Morn' as I start my day. I'm not the only one. I've made it a point to email the song to friends so they can join along. I can also expect my September Morn phone call from Tommy. He's the biggest Neil Diamond fan I've ever met. We served our missions together from '97-'99, and ever since we've returned we've touched base with one another about once a year--September 1st. Sometimes we're able to chat, but for the most part our communication is a lengthy voice message serenade with you guessed it, September Morn. Every now and again a new song will creep in, but it's always a Neil Diamond number. "Look how far we've come, so far from where we used to be, but not so far that we've forgotten how it was before..."
