What's up Doc?

I hate visiting the doctor. I can't even remember the last time I went. This past weekend I decided it would be best to visit the doctor's office to check out a sore ankle so that I could feel comfortable about continuing my marathon training. One of the things that I hate about going to the doctor is that I always feel like I'm doing all of the diagnosis. The doctor always seems to ask, "What do you think is happening with your ankle?" I tell him what I think, and he proceeds to say something like, "Well, if that's what you think let's take that approach and treat it with this new drug that I got from my pharmaceutical rep." That's a bit of an exaggeration of what is said, but that is exactly how I feel as a patient. The past pair of visits though were different. The first visit was with Dr. Foote (good omen). He was great. I felt like he knew his stuff, he knew how I felt being a runner himself, he was positive, and he mentioned several options in moving forward. He suggested seeing a specialist which I did two days later. My second visit wasn't as great. I felt like you do when you take your car into the shop because it is making a strange noise, but of course when you get there you don't hear the noise. This doctor took x-rays of my foot. The only thing that barely even caught his attention on the x-ray had nothing to do with the pain I was feeling. Perfect. He seemed more puzzled than confident. See ya Doc. I'll just stick with the first doctor's advice and take a regular anti-inflammatory pill. So who knows when I'll go back. If I have it my way, never.

I had to take Sebastian to the doctor today and at first, we had to see a student (yippee). She was completely clueless! Anyway, it's understandable that you don't like going to doctors when you have to tell them what to do.
