Enjoyed a fantastic General Conference this weekend. Participation is draining, but the reward is great. Aside from the wonderful messages I got in some good sketching of the speakers.
As I rehearsed with the choir this weekend I paid attention to the detailed direction that was being given. Nothing that we've never heard before: lift the pitch here, adjust the vowel there, sing with greater conviction. Every now and again I hear folks talk about how silly hearing that direction repeatedly seems to be. I began to think about how the sound of the choir would begin to decline if the reminders stopped. I imagine the lack of quality would be apparent very soon to the trained ear and obvious to the untrained ear in due time. So it is with the messages of conference. We hear the same thing nearly every time. The gospel doesn't change nor does each plea for each of us to better ourselves as we strive to live the gospel. Many comment on how the same messages are given over and over. Just as the quality of sound in a choir would decline if the constant reminders to stay on top of the pitch ceased to be, so to would be the decline of the blessings we'd receive through the gospel if we stopped hearing the constant reminders to live it as best as we could. It's a great blessing to be reminded of something you already know, especially when you really need to hear it.
