My Office Experience

Becky and I don’t watch a lot of broadcast television. Every now and again we’ll choose one show that we like and try to remember to watch it or at least record it for a later viewing. Our show of choice right now is The Office. Neither of us used to get into it at all until we took the time to watch the 2nd and 3rd seasons on DVD. In many ways I’d rather watch continuous episodes on DVD rather than watch week to week, but we couldn’t help it this season since we had to find out what was to happen with Pam and Jim. The American version of the office didn’t really do much for me until they really took off with their own stories rather than Americanizing some of the British episodes. I was first introduced to the BBC version with characters David Brent, and Gareth Keenon; and while sharing many similarities to their across-the-pond counterparts Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute, I’ve come to no longer want to compare their offices anymore. To my knowledge the BBC version only went 2 seasons and a 2 hour special before its creators decided to hang it up. Good idea in my mind; they really went out on top. We’ll see how long our beloved Scranton branch decides to let the cameras continue to roll. I’m pulling for them to continue to make me laugh, to continue to include details within each episode that we all strangely relate to (ie: string cheese, HR, forwarded emails), and for Jim and Pam to get married. Of course if they do then we couldn’t enjoy the classic tension of their dating or pre-dating relationship.
