SYTYCD

For the past three summers Becky and I have chosen to watch one show on broadcast television. 3 years ago I never would have guessed this show to be called “So You Think You Can Dance.” Of all the “reality” television out there, this is the one that we get caught up in really rooting for the specific contestants. I’m amazed at what the human body can do. I’m amazed at the stories that it can tell and the emotions that it can evoke through movement. Yes the choreography can be risqué, yes the outfits can be scantily; however at the same time these elements each act as vehicles that come together and deliver a cohesive message and feeling that many people can relate to in some way. The contestants live for their craft; a stark contrast from celebrity has-beens attempting to do the same on other shows. They wear their heart out on their sleeve each time they perform. Their choreographers do as well. Together, they create an atmosphere of competition that is unique to this show. I love seeing someone really deliver the message through their dance, I love thinking that I’m learning new dance moves, and I love guessing what the judges are going to say. Most of the time I guess it right.
