Perhaps one of the most unfailing personal traditions that I have has to do with quirky little candies called Dots. Ever since I can remember, my treat of choice whenever I go to the movies is to purchase that overpriced yellow box of gummy goodness. It all started in 1984 when I went to see the Ghostbusters. Mom and Dad sat me down with a handful of dots and it took me the whole movie to finish them off. Satisfaction. Over time the tradition has changed to include a small cup of ice to accompany the Dots. It is free, and the ice will last for the entire movie. As it melts, that little sip of water is just enough to wet the whistle between a handful of dots. Whether you decide to suck on the little things or chew them up, you're almost guaranteed to have leftovers at the movie's end. Dots do however come with a caveat: outside the movie theatre dots loose their magic, tiny boxes you get at Halloween are unacceptable to consume, and any other flavor than the original 5 flavors are nasty. Till next time Dots, my little $3.25 investment. I'll see you the next time I'm taking in a movie in that stadium seating; absorbing the surround sound and breathing in the scent of theater popcorn.
