We just returned from a delightful trip from the Yellowstone area. Our journey took us to Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana where we were able to see a host of different animals and sites, as well as let the kids explore and discover new things. The excitement kicked off with the unveiling of the vacation activity booklet. In it, we all could check off some of the sites we saw, practice our spelling, writing, coloring and drawing, and learn some new travel songs. It was a pleasure to see the kids get into these things. We started off traveling to Jackson hole where we stayed long enough to see the great view of the Teton mountains, get some lunch and let the kids run around. A couple wrong turns made that trip a little longer than expected so we were most anxious to continue onward to our hotel room at the Grand Targhee Resort. The room was cozy and just the right size for our family. The girls had a bunk bed in an adjacent room and Peter slept in his car seat next to Mom and Dad's bed. We were able to go swimming, horseback riding, hiking, and sight seeing. We spent Sunday afternoon in Driggs, Idaho going to church and disturbing the peace at the local Subway for lunch. Later that evening we celebrated Alyssa's 4th birthday a day early. Monday took us into West Yellowstone where the kids played at the park and we got to see wolves and bears in the local museum. Our actual Yellowstone visit was short and sweet. We took the boardwalk tour around Old Faithful and were able to see the historic hotel there, some incredible natural hot springs, and of course the eruption of Old Faithful herself. We enjoyed more swimming and a horseback ride before leaving the resort the next day. Each night Mom and Dad were able to stay up much too late and watch episodes of LOST. The developments in each episode gave us plenty to discuss on the road. The drives were all that we could have asked for with three small children. Yes there were tears, but it was far outweighed by the music and laughter. Definitely fun, definitely relaxing, definitely a do over.
